Community Investment Day

On May 30, 2014, the Somerville Board of Education will hold a culminating event to celebrate Community Investment Day.  The celebration is a result of service projects completed by the students, staff, and community members of Somerville Public Schools throughout the months of March, April, and May.

Dan Puntillo, Board of Education representative to the Committee, stated, "When Community Investment Day is done, our community will see what contributing, productive members of society our students really are.  Everyone should want to be a valued member of their family and their community."  When John F. Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country," he was not just addressing the adults of the community.  Mr. Puntillo, along with the rest of the Committee, believes that students are capable of making tremendous contributions to our community!

The Community Investment Day Committee has been meeting monthly through the year in preparation for the event.  The Committee members are listed below:
- Dan Puntillo (Ad Hoc Committee Chairman to the Board of Education)
- Timothy Teehan (District Representative/Liaison)
- Lindsay Frevert (Van Derveer School Liaison)
- Matthew DeBlock (Somerville Middle School Liaison)
- David Damaschke (Somerville High School Liaison)
- Timothy Purnell (Superintendent)

The students of Pioneer Studios, under the direction of Heather Kennedy, have been and will be videotaping the community service events and creating a 15-minute podcast to commemorate the celebration.  This podcast will premier on the evening of May 30th.  All submissions for the podcast need to be submitted to Pioneer Studios by May 15, 2014 by emailing pioneerstudios@somervilleschools.org.
